Castle Island is unusually located in the middle of a small "isthmus" on Castle Island Road and Belgrade. In 1929, original owner Mr. Castle, had rocks brought in (allegedly by prisoners) and placed "load by load" into the small portion of the lake that was separated by a strip of shallow water. Soon a corduroy road was built of logs and gravel placed onto the "roadway" allowing two world to come together...the Rome side and the Belgrade side. As a matter of fact, several cabins are located partially in Rome. Cute story?

| Clifton Fletcher, "Barking" orders at the Director... all the while shooting a "fishing for Pike" scene on Long Lake. "This is incredibly difficult, tough work! I'd challenge anyone to trade places." |

 |
| Wasting no time, guests make a run for quiet parts of the lake to "catch the big one..." As a matter of fact, we saw 17 pound "big ones" while photographing here. Castle Island is a fisherman's dream... |

| This summer, three generations found their way to Castle Island while we filmed. It's not unusual for families to reserve their "same week" vacations for as many as 2-3 years ahead. The small camps style and vintage feeling has not changed over the 80 years in business. |
