MEET ELDON JANDREAU, GUIDE, HUNTER, TAXIDERMIST.
BLACK BEAR - NOT A PLEASANT PERSONALITY

The Black Bear is seen by many as a more cuddly bear than the Brown Bear.  Nothing could be farther from the truth.  Many persons are seriously hurt when they feed a black bear and attempt to retreat once "no more" food remains.  Bears do not like to see a food source leave their eye sight and will attack. Many residents are surprised and MANY ARE ATTACKED as they "bring out the trash" in the back yard at dusk. Bears love to rummage. Bears living near neighborhoods have "learned" that humans do not eat all their dinner! Humans are the most wasteful of all creatures. Bears have also learned that those cans and trash bags often represent incredible variety and food for the cubs.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF THE BLACK BEAR
and to the Guides who find these elusive creatures.

HuntersPointGuideService.com makes reaching Eldon easy. He'll respond within a day or so.
Hunters have not experienced the full "thrill of the long bow" until guided by Eldon Jandreau, actually known affectionately as "Long Bow." Eldon says "the joy of taking someone into the forests of Maine clearly puts everyone on equal footing. I've sat in the woods for days and never seen a bear. Big Game in Maine is elusive and sometimes just SEEING such an animal has been nearly as important as participating in the harvest."
GMC trucks are the trucks of choice at this guiding operation. This truck has 280,000 miles.
Travelling to remotely-located bait sites daily, Hunter's Point Guide Services uses GMC pick-ups, one of which shows 267,000 miles (and ALL on nearly impassable tote roads in Maine's rugged wilderness).
CLICK to visit GMC Trucks. Guide Eldon says "Ten ply tires and a truck built to travel ANY terrain...ANY season is critical for safety as well as for business."

Over The Cliff Productions is filming with Eldon Jandreau. The TV Special is called HUNT FOR BLACK BEAR.
Guide Eldon Jandreau's house is perched high... overlooking the lake in Aroostook County. As with all guides, persons like Eldon Jandreau create excitement just by their presence. These guides are natural beneficiaries of being among wilderness inhabitants...by truly participating in the world around us. Guides - for the most part - have learned to "smell the roses."
Eldon Jandreau took Over The Cliff Productions crew into the wilderness in the HUNT FOR BLACK BEAR.
Guide and Taxidermist, Hunter-extraordinaire ELDON JANDREAU makes any hunt special AND memorable.

Eldon's home is loaded with custom taxidermy. Take a look at the view...
Maine's Allagash WIlderness is really 10 million acres of uninhabited forests.
In the distance is the famous Allagash Wilderness.
Even when shooting the Sporting Camps: Comfort & Cuisine series, Over the Cliff prefers at least 2-3 cameras. The third camera takes this photo.
Videographers shooting a hunter's tree stand (16 feet into the tree).
Eldon Jandreau and Clifton Fletcher work patiently at most stops ...attaching "yet another" remote microphones.
Putting a mike on this Master Guide also requires lots of patience
Over The Cliff Productions uses 2 or 3 video cameras at remote locations, thus assuring "the shot" AND providing various angles in post-edits. More cameras means more people and more scent. Some situations are better served by a single camera.
An ambush? Jeremy awaits the second angle of an approaching animal.
Notice the 2nd videographer with earphones? He's listening to the whispers and instructions from Eldon. Every unnatural scent is "like an animal warning." If one enters the bear's domain, plan on using rubber boots & scent blocking sprays.
Three photographers travel into the forest with Long Bow Jandreau, who carries the bait.
Off-loading 30,000 pounds of donuts...Bear Bait.
Bait Barrels are stored in the archery range.
Bear Baiting is a manual endeavor which makes or breaks a hunt.
Manually, the bait is transferred to EACH location! Each owner has his or her own bait preferences. Eldon likes to "bait heavily. If a small bear comes and eats to his desire and later, that big 600-pound bear arrives and eats as well...then we have multiple bears accustomed to checking the location. This assures hunters a better experience."
A snowy view of Baxter State Park's Mount Katahdin (taken on October 10, 2008). The above shots in the wilderness are 45 minutes from this location.
The North Woods of Maine
The hours pass easily into a full day... when driving endlessly in the uninhabited wilderness on remote tote roads.
